Blackcurrant Bush
Established Blackcurrant bush in 3 litre pot.
1. Choosing the Right Location
-
Sunlight: Blackcurrants prefer full sun for the best fruit production. However, they can tolerate partial shade, though fruit yields may be lower.
-
Soil: Blackcurrants thrive in well-drained, fertile, slightly acidic soil (pH 6.0-6.5). If your soil is heavy or clay-based, improve drainage with organic matter or grow the bush in raised beds.
-
Space: Blackcurrants need plenty of room to spread, so plant them about 4 feet apart to allow for good air circulation and healthy growth.
2. Planting
-
When to Plant: either in the Autumn or early spring.
-
How to Plant: Dig a hole twice the size of the root ball. Plant the bush so that the crown (where the roots meet the stem) is slightly below ground level. Fill the hole with soil, firm it gently, and water thoroughly.
