Caring for a Yucca plant is relatively easy since they are quite hardy and low-maintenance. Here are three tips to help keep your Yucca thriving:
1. Plenty of Light
Yucca plants love bright, direct sunlight. Place your plant in a sunny spot where it will get at least 6 hours of light a day. If grown indoors, a south- or west-facing window works well. Insufficient light can result in leggy, weak growth.
2. Water Sparingly
Yucca plants are drought-tolerant and prefer to dry out between waterings. Water your plant thoroughly but only when the top 2-3 inches of soil feel dry to the touch. Overwatering can lead to root rot, so make sure the soil drains well.
3. Well Draining Soil
Ensure the Yucca is planted in well-draining soil, as they don’t like to sit in soggy conditions. A cactus or succulent mix works well, or you can add some sand or perlite to regular potting soil to improve drainage.
